I have a 92 300ZX n/a that I am in the process of replacing the rear main seal, clutch kit including a new flywheel ( non machinable per machine shop ) I'm fairly mechanically inclined, and do a lot of research prior to doing any repairs I have not done before. My question involves the install of the new flywheel to the crankshaft. I ran across a service bulletin # NTB03-093a dated March 19,2004 Applied vehicles: ALL It explains that most engines have an alignment dowel installed in the rear crankshaft that is used to properly align ( locate) the flywheel with the crankshaft. It goes on to say that upon re-assembly, the flywheel locating hole MUST be aligned with this dowel for proper engine control system. If not aligned ( clocked ) correctly, rough running and MIL "ON" will occur. I did not see a dowel in the crank or flywheel on my vehicle. I do see a hole in between one of the crank bolt holes ( same area as Nissan's pic in TSB showing a dowel. My old flywheel has only bolt holes and some counter weight holes punched mid ways into the flywheel. I have heard only racing cranks have to be balanced to a flywheel????? If this is needed on my year what is the Nissan part number for this dowel? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
